BEGINNINGS

Beginnings

Pencil drawing β€” Beethoven on a white sheet

Instead of a portrait of my wife, I drew Beethoven.

As I mentioned earlier, there was no art school and no grand plan. There was, however, a funny story. My wife, an architect by education, drew a portrait of our granddaughter.

She did it with such ease that I felt a pang of jealousy and… decided to sketch a pencil portrait of my Kasia.

Instead of a portrait of my wife, I drew Beethoven. And that is how it all began.

LEARNING

Learning from Paul Clark

I had no one to take watercolor lessons from. A well-known painter agreed to give me a few lessons, but insisted that I should start with oil painting, because watercolor is the most difficult of techniques. I politely thanked her after the first lesson and… found Paul Clark. Paul became my most important teacher on the internet. I followed his YouTube profile, and that was when paintings began to appear as exercises and attempts to approach his way of working.

I also exchanged a few words with Paul on YouTube. I am showing you these works to prove how much I owe to Paul and his tutorials. Thank you, Paul.
